Press release by Parasole Restaurant Holdings 4-10-09
Minneapolis, Minn., April 10, 2009 – In an attempt to brighten the spirits of the newly unemployed, CHINO LATINO restaurant will offer mini-tuna tacos to guests who have lost their jobs.
Dubbed “Pink Tacos for Pink Slips,” the outreach campaign begins April 15 and will conclude at the end of April.
Yet even in its pre-launch phase, the offering has struck a powerful
nerve – although mostly among owners of pink slips, chemises, shimmies
and teddies.
“We miscalculated”
“I thought ‘Pink Slip’ was universally understood to be a termination
notice,” says Chino Latino General Manager and Executive Chef Noah
Barton “But many of our guests take it literally. And now we have a
storeroom full of pink, fuchsia, carnation and rose-colored
unmentionables.”
Barton is confident, however, that “Pink Tacos for Pink Slips” will appeal to at least a few jobless people -- “not to mention Uptown drag queens.”
No documentation required
Guests need not actually present a pink slip, explains Barton. “We
don’t require proof. It’s just enough to ask for a Pink Taco, and we’ll
take you at your word.”
Servers present guests with a complimentary, freshly assembled
mini-taco consisting of a crispy wonton shell filled with spicy tuna
tartare and citrus aioli. “The Pink Taco is almost an amuse bouche,”
says Barton, “since it can be finished in a couple of bites, and
because we typically present it at the beginning of the meal.”
To be extra clear
Barton emphasizes that the “Pink Tacos for Pink Slips” outreach campaign is intended for the newly jobless, not the overly underwear’d.
