Press Release from Parasole Restaurant Holdings. Minneapolis, Minn., March 6, 2009 –
Heeding Thailand’s call for help (which would be “Chuay” with a third/falling tone), Chino Latino is doing its part to spur tourism by introducing Uptowners to their new national cocktail: The Siam Sunray.
And none too soon. Reeling from recent political turmoil that shut down Suvarnabhumi Airport and left thousands of tourists stranded, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Thai Hotels Association held a competition to develop a national cocktail in the hope that it might lure vacationers back to the country.
The Siam Sunray consists of a shot of vodka, coconut liqueur, a dash of chili pepper and sugar, fresh lime juice, a few slivers of lemongrass and ginger – shaken not stirred, then strained into a glass – with ice and soda water.
“This is a great opportunity for our guests to enjoy a spectacular new cocktail,” explained Barton – “and our shot at redemption with Thailand after mispronouncing ‘Phuket’ in various media.”
